I have had carpal tunnel syndrome surgery under Mr Jones at Stamford Hospital on 23/5 I have the surgery within the six weeks as agreed at my consultation. This surgery was very quick only about 20 mins with local anesthetic ,the theater was very clean and all the staff made sure you was kept informed and kept calm. I was told to take off the cast after one week and then I would be sent an appt for another week to have my sitches out this I received after 2 days . My wound was great after one week after taken off the cast I was using my hand as normal then was seen in clinic on the 6th June seen by appt time to have my sitches out. All surgery and treatment was 5 star I would recommend this Surgeon and Stamford Hospital.

I have met this doctor several times, three times within the year and as a trauma patient a decade ago.. He is undoubtedly a pleasant man. First time I met him after a serious injury awaiting surgery he simply scared me witless with the potential horrific outcome of my surgery, I was fortunate and had successful surgery with another doctor the next day. More recently I found I wasn't heard when I spoke and his explanations of the problem hard to understand, hopping to and fro with many possibilities, but nothing definite. If a doctor sits and brainstorms when a patient is present its uncomfortable for the patient. Surely a consultant can at least give the impression they know what they are talking about. Being pleasant is not enough to recommend the doctor..

Response from Mr Jonathan Jones

Thank you for your helpful feedback from an unusually onerous all day clinic last week and I apologise that I did not provide a more coherent and understandable explanation for your symptoms. In addition I note that previously you were unsettled when hearing the risks and benefits of surgery explained. On that point It is my professional responsibility to provide informed Consent. Finally as regards " brainstorming". I do spend a long time with patients and try to ensure they are fully informed. Occasionally, when the diagnosis is not clear, I explain fully the possibilities, but may not be able to provide any answers or solutions and I try to do this in a caring and considerate way. I am sorry that I unsettled you and that I did not meet your expectations that day.

Mr Jones has operated on my hands three times now and I have been more than pleased with the results he is an excellent hand surgeon and always has a very pleasant manner. I was seen today at Stamford hospital and found the receptionist and nurses very pleasant. I had an X-ray first and saw Mr Jones after who explained very clearly my options. I opted for surgery and the procedure has been explained very clearly to me. I think Stamford hospital is small but very personal and efficient. I would strongly recommmend Mr Jones.
